CHILD SUPPORT" filming update May 22nd 2007

Last week we spent in the bush at camp Child Support. We filmed in the bush all week and people started to go a bit nuts but we got some good stuff of Risto, Sexton, Cartwright and Fredu.

Fredu and Risto then headed back to Finland for a well deserved fishing break. Simon and his brothers went back to Ontario to help dad put a new roof on the house and do some fishing too. Andre caught a fish that looks just like him. Poor Andre always catches the smallest fish.

Sollars and Wimbles are still going for it and Sexton has been getting into shooting photos as well. Sexton recently saw Shrek and turned himself into Shrexton.

Here is the wedge that took a few days to build and Simon is flexing beside it. Half of us are editing and the other half of us are still filming.

Ilari has been tanning and is looking for the woman of his dreams.. and California entrepreneur Chris Edmands is starting his own snowboard sock company called Wack Socks Inc. You can find prototypes of Wack Socks outside of Edmands’ truck every morning.

Snowboard News: Thursday, May 17, 2007

The Child Support crew just got back from a great park shoot at Sierra and Squaw Valley. The first week we were down there was nothing but cloudy days and messy hotel rooms. Week two broke with beautiful sunny skies and a lot of jumping. Markku Koski pulled his shoulder out of socket twice and got a concussion but still managed to "Finnish" the park shoot with some really good stuff before going back to Finland. There was a ton of good landed stuff that went down at the park shoots and thanks to Sierra at Tahoe and Squaw valley for all the help and effort with the shoots. On one of the down days Jimmy Halopoff was nice enough to host a barbeque at his house and we skated his ramp. We dared Fredu to hit the rope swing into the 3-foot deep freezing pond beside Jimmy's ramp. Fredu was up for it and did the sketchiest rope swing into water that we ever saw. He was supposed to get 40 bucks for his efforts but Ilari had to spend the money on new pants. We are now back in Whistler doing some spring backcountry for the next month. We ain't stopping yet.

"CHILD SUPPORT" Filming Update April 22nd, 2007

Here we are almost at the end of the season and still a lot more filming to do. Got some great days in the Whistler backcountry last week with Sollors, Simon and Wimbles. Ilari is itching to get out there so he bought himself a brand spanking new sled. (see above)

We are now down in Lake Tahoe filming some park and waiting for the sun. Half of the crew flew down and the other half drove. Risto and Fredu just arrived here last week as well. Fredu drives like a Gramma and Ilari needs to stay off the wake up drinks.

Traveling is really starting to take its toll on some of our riders - especially after eating all that road food. Here is a shot of Joe and Simon getting phat.

"CHILD SUPPORT" filming update April 9th 2007

Last roadtrip was a lot of fun although we had some injuries on the way. Torsti hurt his ankle pretty bad and is still on recovery.

Fredu rode straight into a rail and bruised his shin. He was walking with canes, but is riding again already.

Risto and Fredu scored some final tricks for their parts. Lapland was beautiful with nice weather. We returned to Helsinki for final days in Serena-ski resort, just riding for fun and having a good time gettin ready for the park tour.

Meanwhile back in the US of A...
Simon, Steve Cartwright, and Scotty Vine were all filming at Bear last week. Here are a few photos from their trip.

Team Dirtbag over in Finland has been killing it this past month. Here are a few photos from Ilari. Joe Sexton just got back from a month long trip over there where he has been riding with Fredu, Risto Ruokola and friend of StepChild Torsti. In between Joe getting all artsy with his new digital camera and living off junkfood he was able to get some bangers for the movie.

Here's Joe's trip story and then some artsy shots from Joe with dead birds and shi*t.

JOE WROTE...

As soon as I stepped off the plane I was greeted by two of the biggest dirt bags I had ever met, one I had met before and the other I had not. The first was Ilari Suhohen or however you spell it, the Defective filmer and my baby sitter for the trip, the other was named simply "Pops". I think they pronounced it douche bag though. Pops was a digi filmer and was pretty new but did a good job.

Anyways after gathering all my luggage it was off to check out some spots. We hopped in the booze wagon and we were off, I had no idea what to expect before coming to Finland. I thought it was going to be a cool spot for rails, but when I actually got there it exceeded all my expectations. Just minutes from the airport are all the spots I have dreamed of hitting, every rail seemed perfect, I was quickly told these were "played out" and they were right.

After that we met up with the rest of the boyz, Fredu Sirvio, Risto Ruokola, and simply Torsti. I won’t bore you with what hammers went down on the trip and when Risto did a benihana worty pickle revert, or when Fredu busted out the switch barracuda roll and at the last second reverted it to fake-eye. And of course you don't want to hear about Torsti’s Swedish chili rainbow and how he brought it back to reggys, yea you probably don’t want to hear about that.

So instead of explaining everything I just made list with all the highlights and low lights of the trip... enjoy. Thanks to Ilari, for letting me stay with him and putting up with me for a month, and all the bros for fun times shredding.

These were the highlights of my trip highlights of my trip:

- Meeting three amazing snowboarders Fredu, Risto, Torsti, 2 amazing filmers, Ilari, Pops and making 5 good friends.

- Making every spot ride-able, whether it was cutting down a post or bending a rail.

- Using a flamethrower even when we really didn’t need to.

- Eating so much candy and drinking so much pop, I actually built up a tolerance.

- Not knowing what anything says and asking my Finnish brothers for help 24/7.

- End of the trip when everyone got sick except Ilari and me.

- Wearing a long sleeve and no gloves in -30 weather.

- Having Chi Guy come visit us for a week, and really getting to know him. Thanks!

- Having the most fun on my snowboard.

- Late night coffees and donuts

- Eating McDonalds and Hesburger

.

- Being there for a month and getting kicked off of 2 rail’s the whole time.

Here are some shots of Simon Chamberlain and Steve Cartwright warming up in Whistler, for the upcoming Stepchild and NOMIS video collaboration CHILD SUPPORT, by Defective Films. You can see by the similar styles they sure appreciate riding together. These are only the highlights from their session, so be sure to check out the video this Fall 07 when the video drops. Also check out Defective Films to see the teaser.

Double butters are hard enough, but doing it with a nine is pretty crazy. Simon’s double butter 900 is a cross between Rodney Mullen, with Mark Appleyard style.

Looks like Simon and Steve are going to fall a sleep on this rail together, hopefully they wake up by the end of it.

Simon popping a nice and mellow nollie front 3 over the garbage can. The carbon fiber stringers in his board help him to pop that hi stepchiiiiiiiiii.

Steve got high enough to clear Shaq if he was jamming a basketball on the lip.

Big and beautiful. No we aren’t talking about a jungle princess, or the latest hamburger from McDonald’s. We’re talking about the new Mushroom Box brought to you by NOMIS, from the mind of Simon Chamberlain. While it doesn’t come with voluptuous curves or even a side of fries, it is 32 feet long and 16 feet wide with the capabilities of being converted into a wall ride. Simon and friends will be breaking in the new box all summer long at Camp of Champions, so get your fries to go and get up there!
